Being truly talented at something means a lifetime of practice and patience, at least that’s what it means for regular people. The talented performers on this list somehow packed all those years of hard work and experience into their short lives and are lighting up Broadway. There’s no doubt that these young performers have already showed great talent, but what is even more exciting is the potential careers they have in front of them. Here are 5 of Broadways most talented young stars.

1. Lucas Steele

For most people to be successful, they have to focus on one subject or medium and work at it for their entire life to. Lucas Steele is the exception, because he’s dabbled in just about every artistic medium and is still one of the brightest young stars on Broadway right now.

Thanks to the success of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 Steele has recently been launched to fame, but don’t think that he stumbled upon the opportunity. He’s been with The Great Comet since its early days. In The Great Comet Steele plays Anatole, a young, attractive, and lustful officer in the army who is immediately drawn to the musical’s protagonist Natasha. Steele has been playing Anatole since this show first premiered in 2012 and has been a major reason for this show’s rise to Broadway success. With his talent, varied experience, and young age, there is no telling what this Broadway star has ahead of him.

2. Ben Platt

Ben Platt is not only the star of one of the most popular musicals on Broadway, Dear Evan Hansen, but he’s also been in the popular film series Pitch Perfect. Even though he was in a major film, most people know and will remember Ben Platt for his tireless performance of the emotionally taxing role in one of the hottest shows on Broadway.

Since he was 17 Platt has been grabbing producer’s attention with his talent and emotional delivery, but his career took off when he landed a role in a Chicago production of The Book of Mormon. It wasn’t long before he impressed the producers of Dear Evan Hansen, and he’s been wowing audiences and his fellow performers ever since he opened with the show in 2015. At his young age, 23 years old, Platt has proved night after night that he has the ability to perform physically and emotionally roles. With his age and skill, Platt’s future potential has no cap.

3. Philippa Soo

You might know this young performer from her role as Liza, the wife of Alexander Hamilton in Hamilton, but she’s showed her talent for the big stage since her first professional performance. Soo’s first professional performance was the lead role in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 when it was playing off Broadway. Judging by her impressive resume of extremely successful shows, there’s no doubt that Soo has the talent to become a Broadway legend.

Soo has not only performed in some of the most popular shows on Broadway, she’s performed in the White House and the Super Bowl. Soo graduated from Julliard in just 2012, so there’s no telling what she has ahead of her. Recently she’s been performing in Broadways adaptation of Amélie, but with that show closing the future is open and bright for Philippa Soo.

4. Kimiko Glenn

People outside of the Broadway world might recognize Kimiko Glenn from her role as Brook Soso in the Netflix hit series Orange is the New Black which has been on air since 2013. Broadway fans probably know her for her role as Dawn Williams in Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson’s comedy Waitresses.

Glenn is known for her singing and acting talent, but also for her energy and focus on making sure that Asian-Americans are represented in popular media. Glenn has made a specialty out of funny and touching characters, and her performance as Dawn is one of the best examples of her talent. Glenn has the talent to be a force in television and theater, so you can be sure that you will be seeing her name in lights for a long time to come.

5. Will Roland

Just like Ben Platt, Will Roland has been with Dear Evan Hansen since it first premiered and has helped launch the show to its critical success, but there’s no doubt that Dear Evan Hansen is just the beginning for this young actor.
While Roland has not landed a leading Broadway role yet, you can be sure that his talented acting, singing, and his knack for comedy will get him there sooner than later. His performance as Jared in Dear Evan Hansen is already earning him the admiration of Broadway fans even though his stage time is limited. There’s no doubt that he has a future in comedic roles, but who knows what Roland can do in a dramatic role?
