Last week, acclaimed contemporary dancer and choreographer Astad Deboo was honored with the Yagnaraman Living Legend Award by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. Founded in 1953, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha is a dynamic classical music, dance and cultural institution based in Chennai, India.

 

 

The award was given to Astad in recognition of his outstanding performing arts career and contributions as a pioneer of modern and contemporary dance in India.

Astad was previously honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama in 1996 and the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2007.
