Debussy Alone on Stage

Description

Debussy Alone on Stage is a junction of both theatre and music. A meeting with the composer Claude Debussy, played by pianist and comedian Damien Luce. The text, a monologue from the Correspondence de Debussy offers the viewer a look into the intimacy of a musical genius. Debussy evokes his joys, injuries, his darling daughter (who made some furtive appearances), the war, in a caustic and lucid tone. He sometimes pauses to play his music on the piano.

Debussy Alone on Stage is not a concert reading, but a dramatic and musical time spent in the company of one of the greatest French composers. The show is paired with the The Debussy Daughter, Damien Luce's third novel, which presents the imaginary journal of Darling Debussy between the death of her father and her own death sixteen months later, at the age of 13.
